Rafters Sweep Woodchucks with 4-1 Win

Wausau, Wis- The Rafters won their fourth consecutive game this evening, defeating the Wisconsin Woodchucks 4-1 at Athletic Park. Wisconsin Rapids improved to 4-3 in the second half with the win tonight, and move to 4-0 against the Woodchucks on the season. Brian Russell (College of Staten Island) threw another gem for the Rafters, picking up his second win of the season. Devin Skapura (Texas A&M) took the loss, and Craig Pearcy (Morehead State) picked up his second save of the summer.

Brian Russell (College of Staten Island) was outstanding tonight for Wisconsin Rapids, going eight inning of one run baseball. He also struck out eight Woodchucks in route to his second win of the summer. Devin Skapura threw well for the Woodchucks, with the only damage the Rafters did off of him, was a two run blast by Beau Jordan (LSU) which was his first home run of the summer. The Rafters added two insurance runs in the ninth inning, as the aforementioned Jordan and Ryan Cleveland both touched home. Cleveland also had an RBI single earlier in the ninth inning.

The Rafters will be heading to Michigan for a four game out of state trip starting tomorrow. First pitch for today's game will be at 6:35 PM. The Rafters will not return to Witter Field until July 14th when they will face off against the Madison Mallards.
