Green Bay, WI.- When the Bullfrogs lost Franco Guardascione (Jacksonville), they had to find another catcher. But at the midway point of the season, there was no guarantee what kind of quality player they could find, if any at all.

When Luke Prihoda did some in-season recruiting of the Lone Star state, he came up with two players, Chad Dullnig (Ranger College) and a catcher who played in the 2015 NJCAA World Series, Mason George (Texas- San Antonio).

"I talked to Coach Prihoda. He's a coach down there in South Texas. He recruited me to go to his school [Texas A&M Kingsville]," said George. "It just kind of worked out luck of the draw. He's given me the opportunity to come up here and play in this prestigious league and I'm only thankful for it."

George led the Highlanders this past spring with a .448 AVG, a whopping 43-for-96 at the plate. He also sported a BB:K ratio of almost 2:1 (20BB-11K) and even stole four bases.

McLennan finished May with a record of 11-3, and advanced to the final game of the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, CO. During the final three-game stretch, George went 6-for-8 with two runs and two RBI.

"[University of Texas- San Antonio] noticed me up at the [NJCAA] World Series and I went to take a couple visits after the season was over," said George. "And they are giving me the chance to extend my career."

At Green Bay, George has seized an opportunity to fine-tune his skills before going to UTSA in the fall. In addition to working on improving his arm strength and blocking skills, George has contributed at the plate, including a 2-for-5 showing in an 8-0 victory over Kalamazoo on July 6th.

In the game, George caught the team's fifth shutout and worked well with the always dominant, Garrett Harrison (LHP/St. Cloud). With two runners on in the seventh, George's double drove in two runs, and he scored seconds after on a wild throw to centerfield.

"I thought it was a hit and run, but apparently it wasn't," said George of the bizarre play. "I cue balled a ball out there and they overthrew home. The pitcher, I guess he saw me going halfway to third, and he just kind of stopped and overthrew it. And it was off to the races after that."

George may also spend time this summer working with the Bullfrogs new pitcher, Chad Dullnig, another Texas NJCAA player considering the University of Texas-San Antonio. Like it was for Nathan Disch and Franco Guardascione, the furtherance of a battery mate rapport is an added bonus of playing in the Northwoods League.

George and the Bullfrogs take on the Battle Creek Bombers tonight at 6:05 CST with coverage on WOCO 107.1FM.

Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
