Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Mequon, WI - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters collected a hit in seven innings but scored only once Thursday. The Rafters fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks at Kapco Park in Mequon 9-1.

Tommy Organ (JR, Univ. of North Florida) was hit hard once again. The lefty was beat up by Lakeshore for eight hits in 4.1 innings. The Chinooks scored six runs, five earned, off of him before the book would be closed on the Rafters' starter. Lakeshore scored two in the bottom of the first and second, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead.

Austin Neary (FR, Western Carolina Univ.) smashed his second home run of the season to make it 4-1 in the third, but his big fly would represent all of the runs for Wisconsin Rapids. The offense collected hits in seven of the nine innings, but struggled when it mattered most going just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Along with Neary, Brandon Hohl (JR, Univ. of Illinois) and Aaron Gretz (FR, Ohio State Univ.) were both good at the plate again. Hohl went 2-for-3 with a walk, including one of the two hits with runners in scoring position, and Gretz collected two base-knocks as well.

A collection of three pitchers shut down the Rafters. Started Chris Cotton, making his second start, improved to 2-0. Organ (0-3) took the loss.

The Rafters' (13-15) loss was their sixth straight, and they will send Kyle Wormington (JR, Valparaiso Univ.) to the mound Friday against Lakeshore (14-15) once again. First pitch from Kapco Park Friday is at 7:05 pm.
