Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers lost their second straight game on Friday night to the St. Cloud Rox by a final score of 3-1 in St. Cloud. The Rox take two out of three from the Honkers with the win.

The series defeat is the first for Rochester since getting swept by the Mankato MoonDogs in two games on June 17th and 18th.

Honkers starter Matt Kent (Texas A&M) pitched well through 8.0 innings allowing three earned runs but a lack of offense from the Rochester lineup made him a victim of defeat. Kent allowed eight hits and struck out two St. Cloud hitters. Two of St. Cloud's eight hits were solo homeruns.

With the loss, the lefty Kent is now 2-2 in five starts.

Rox starter Tadd Johansen (Wayne State) surrendered just one earned run on five Honker hits in his 7.0 frames of work. Johansen improves to 2-1 on the season.

Adam Maxon (Jacksonville) earned his third save of the summer for St. Cloud with a quick 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Rochester second baseman Justin Protacio (Kansas) and centerfielder Jordan Parr (Illinois) each went 2 for 4 in the loss.

The Honkers (13-17) travel way north tomorrow to take on the Border Cats (12-17) in Thunder Bay, Canada for the first of a five-game series. Pitching for the first time in 2012 for the Honkers is 2011 Northwoods League Mid-season All-Star Nick Dolsky (DMACC). On the bump for Thunder Bay will be Wes Parsons (Jackson State CC). Parsons is 4-1 in five starts this season.

The Honkers are not back at home until Saturday, July 7th when they take on the Willmar Stingers at 7:05 PM.
