Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (15-26, 3-3) seemed to have turned it around in the second half of the season and they will look to stay on the rise tonight as they face the Madison Mallards (23-18, 5-3). The Rafters beat the Mallards in last night's opener by a score of 6-2, a game where the Rafters were seemingly in control the entire time.
Starting tonight for the Rafters will be Jeff Gogue (Cal. St. Dominguez Hills, 0-2) who will be making his second start of the season. Gogue got roughed up in his last start as the Wisconsin Woodchucks got to him for seven runs on five hits in six and a third innings of work. Gogue looks to bounce back however as he went longer then he was expected to and tonight looks to keep the Mallards baffled just as last night's starter, Domenic Mazza (UC Santa Barbara, 1-0), did.
The opposing pitcher tonight for the Mallards will be Christian Taugner (Brown, 2-1). Taugner has an ERA of 2.94 on the season and in 36.2 innings of work has only walked six batters, but he has allowed a hit per inning as he has given up 36 hits. Taugner's last start did not last long as he only went five innings, but he picked up the win as he only gave up two runs on six hits against the Battle Creek Bombers.
One of the best performance's in the Northwoods League last night was put in by the Rafters own Clark Eagan (Arkansas). Eagan went four for four and drove in two runs while scoring two himself. Eagan is now batting .412 on the season and has driven in 15 runs in just 16 games played. Another key performance in last night's victory was that of Campbell Wear (UC Santa Barbara). The defensive minded catcher went two for three with a walk and saw his batting average rise to .310 for the season. Wear also does a great job behind the plate as he smothers every pitch that is in the dirt and he has a cannon from behind the plate.
The game tonight once again starts at 7:05pm which means the gates open at 6:05pm to Witter Field. Tonight is Advanced Disposal "Go Green" Night at the park highlighted by a Rosco P. Rafter Garbage Truck bobble head giveaway.
