Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters returned to their winning ways on Sunday evening, running away with a 9-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers. The Rafters scored in six of their eight innings, including five innings to start the game. Jake Sandlin (Georgia College) continued his reign of terror on Northwoods League pitching, going to deep left field for a solo home run in the first inning, followed by doubles in the third, fifth and seventh, picking up four RBIs in the process. The win moves the Rafters over the .500 mark at 6-5, while the loss drops the Growlers to 3-10.

Wisconsin Rapids starter Jack Riley (UConn) put together a quality start, tossing six innings and allowing two runs. Both came in the fifth inning on a two-run homer after Riley had cruised through four scoreless frames. The lefty from West Boylston, Mass., came back out in the sixth and threw a shutdown inning.

Mitch McGeein (Eastern Michigan) got into the action in the fifth as he crushed a ball over the wall in left for a two-run home run. Demetrius Sims (Bethune Cookman) and Sam Tolleson (Central Florida) also tallied two hits apiece for Wisconsin Rapids. Jonah Bride (Neosho CC) added a pair of RBIs.

The Rafters will continue their six game homestand with another tussle against the Growlers tomorrow night, June 8, with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
