June 7, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Franco Guardascione hit a pair of two-RBI doubles in key situations to help the Green Bay Bullfrogs win back-to-back games at Joannes Stadium on Sunday afternoon against the Battle Creek Bombers.
Green Bay got on the scoreboard first after starter Parker Hamilton shut down the Bombers in order in the first inning. Ty Blankmeyer began the bottom of the first with a walk and advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. Paul Jacobson brought Blankmeyer home with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Battle Creek picked up a run in the second, but Green Bay added to its lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Three of the first four Bullfrog batters walked followed by a pair of RBI singles from Caleb Ratzman and Blankmeyer. Green Bay scored two batters later when Jacobson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Bullfrogs a 4-1 lead.
Green Bay picked up another run in the following inning with a leadoff home hit by Connor Ross in his second game of the season.
The Bombers came right back with a three-RBI double by Matt Simmons in the top of the sixth and tied the game an inning later on a sacrifice fly.
The Bullfrogs loaded the bases with a single, hit by pitch and walk with Guardascione at the plate. He doubled to left center to score two runs in part of a three-run rally that gave Green Bay an 8-5 lead.
Battle Creek did not go away, as the Bombers plated two runs to cut the deficit to one in the eighth inning, but it was Guardascione who came up with the big hit again with another two-RBI double that gave Green Bay a comfortable 10-7 advantage.
Sam Brunner pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save for the Bullfrogs, who improved to 6-6 on the season.
The Bullfrogs will go for three consecutive victories on Monday at 6:35 p.m. against Battle Creek for Star Wars Night. Kids 12 and under in costume will receive a free ticket.
