Rafters Look to Get Back to Winning Ways against Woodchucks

June 27, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.- Fresh off a three-win road trip, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (16-9) travel up the road to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks (13-11) for a double-header accounting for the rainout on June 3. The first-place Rafters bring their sizzling bats and strong pitching into tonight's ballgames.

After eight wins in the last ten games, Rafter starter Jay Peters (UW-Milwaukee) will toe the rubber in hopes of adding another victory to that impressive stretch. Peters will make his fifth start of the year, still in search of his first decision. His ERA currently sits at 4.71 in 21 innings of work. In each of his last three starts he has pitched five innings. His finest start of the year came in his last outing, when he only allowed a lone run on two hits with six strikeouts.

Wisconsin will counter with Joe Steele (0-2). Steele has yet to go more than three innings in either of his two starts on the year. While he still looks for his first victory of the year, his task of taming the Rafters lineup may be even more difficult.

In the second game of the double header, Eric Ligda (Millersville) will start his first game of the year for the Rafters. In three relief appearances, Lidga has thrown nine innings and only allowed two runs while striking out thirteen hitters. The Woodchucks will send Michael Imperato to the mound. Imperato has yet to throw a pitch this season for the 'Chucks.

Both games of the double header are slated for just seven innings. The first game of the double header is scheduled for 5:35 PM and the second is set for 7:35 PM.
