Madison Looks to Carry Momentum into Lakeshore

June 27, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

After winning a 12-inning thriller a night ago, the Mallards (16-10) will look to build off of their sweep of Green Bay as they travel to Lakeshore to take on the Chinooks (11-17). Clutch hitting was the difference in their second consecutive win, as Matt Vierling (Notre Dame) knocked in the game tying run in the 9th and Cameron Frost (Washington State) doubled home the eventual winning run in the 12th.

Looking for their third win in as many days, Madison will hand the ball to Mike Reitcheck (Penn), who is eyeing his third win of the 2016 season. Reitcheck currently stands at 2-0 with a 5.57 ERA, with win number two coming at Lakeshore. The left-hander was phenomenal in his last outing against the Chinooks, allowing four hits in his seven-shutout frames. Madison would go on to win that game 2-1.

Lakeshore will throw Cole Gnetz (Miami-OH), a right-hander who earned the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night in an outing earlier this season, allowing one hit and striking out nine in seven innings of work against Battle Creek. On the season, Gnetz has yet to earn a decision, posting a 4.11 ERA in four starts.

Scoring 15 runs in their two-game set against the Bullfrogs, Madison is swinging the bat as well as any team in the league. They are hitting .308 as a team on the road and have been getting big contributions in the last few outings from Frost, Vierling and Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte), who is hitting .318 with two home runs in his last five games.

Tonight's contest is set for 6:35 pm from Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Wednesday, June 29th to take on the Rockford Rivets at 7:05 pm. The theme for the game will be 80's Night, with a tribute to Prince. It will also be Mullet Night at Warner Park, where fans can earn one dollar off of a hot dog for every inch of their authentic mullet. Do the math and we'll pay you to eat a hot dog! Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
