Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
The Battle Creek Bombers fell to the Rockford Rivets, 4-3 at Rivets Stadium Monday night. The Bombers trailed 3-0 early on, but rallied back to tie the game in the fifth, before falling, 4-3.
The Rivets took an early lead against the Bombers, scoring one run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead against Tommy Parsons and the Battle Creek Bombers.
In the second, the Rivets loaded the bases on two walks and a single before Michael Smith laid down a picture-perfect bunt down the third base line that just wouldn't go foul, giving Rockford a 1-0 lead. Then in the third, with one out Jacob Vander Wal launched a solo shot over the right field fence to make it a 2-0 lead.
Following Vander Wal's homer, Alex Maloney reached on an error and came around to score as Gavin Johnson reached on another Bomber error to extend the Rivets lead to three.
But the Bombers would battle back and tie things up, scoring one run in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the fifth. In the fourth, the Bombers loaded the bases on a walk and two singles as Jacob Blunt would come around to score on Nick Podkul's high, bouncing groundout, cutting the Rivets lead to 3-1.
And in the fifth, with two outs, Daniel Jipping reached on an error and Dean Miller singled, coming around to score on Blunt's RBI-single and an error by the Rivets' shortstop Maloney, tying the game at 3.
But the Rivets would strike back to take the lead in the eighth, as Gavin Johnson singled with one out against Max Ritchie and with two outs, Cade Bunnell smacked a double into left-center field, scoring Johnson and giving the Rivets a 4-3 lead.
The Bombers would threaten in the ninth, getting two on with one out, but Joe Romero would strike out Dean Miller and Cody Sporrer to end the Bombers threat and give the Rivets a 4-3 win.
Parsons took a no-decision for the Bombers, pitching five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, walking two and striking out eight. Max Ritchie took the loss for the Bombers, as he falls to 0-4 on the year. Joe Romero picks up the win for the Rivets.
With the loss the Bombers fall to 14-15 on the year. The Bombers will be back in action Tuesday night against the Rivets at 6:35 CST/7:35 EST as they look to split the two-game set against Rockford.
