Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - A Rafters' win on Wednesday night would bring Wisconsin Rapids back to .500 overall on the season and give the team a two-game sweep of their rivals from the south, the Madison Mallards. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:05 p.m.
Wisconsin Rapids defeated the Mallards 3-1 last night at the Duck Pond and put the Rafters record at 13-14 on the summer. The low scoring affair was highlighted by an outstanding pitching performance from Brian Russell (College of Staten Island). The right hander threw seven stellar innings and allowed one run while striking out four. Brian Bass (Faulkner University) threw two innings as he collected his second save of the summer.
Pitching tonight for the Rafters will be Chris Falwell (Cisco College), who was drafted in the 29th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2015 MLB Draft. The tall lefty is making his fourth start of the year and has compiled an 0-1 record with a 3.27 ERA over 11 innings. The Round Rock, Texas native's best start was against Lakeshore, when he held the Chinooks to just two hits while striking out seven over five innings on June 4.
Tonight's game is the Delton Grand Wisconsin Dells Night at Witter Field. The first fans through the gates will receive a Dells coupon book and all fans in attendance will have a chance at hotel stay giveaways. Performing tonight will be FLOW Parkour presented by Nasonville Dairy. Also, each Wednesday home game during the 2015 season will be Point Brewery Double Your Fun Wednesday. With the purchase of two cans of the Point Brewery "Beer of the Game" from one of the Rafters vendors, fans will receive two free bags of peanuts.
