Loggers Outlast Kingfish

Kenosha, Wis. - Two quick runs in the top of the first inning set the tone for the Loggers to beat the Kingfish by a final of 3-2 at Simmons Field Wednesday night.

La Crosse (16-13) took advantage of back-to-back singles to start the game. SS Mason McCoy singled on the first pitch of the game and moved to second base on a wild pitch. LF Will Savage hit a RBI single to centerfield to score McCoy. Savage later came around on a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 lead for the Loggers.

The Kingfish (19-11) could not muster up much offense on the night. The lone offensive bright spot was a solo home run by DH Jason Scholl in the bottom of the second inning. The Kingfish tried to rally in the eighth inning, loading the bases with two outs for CF Jack Sundberg. The speedy outfielder worked the count full and then drew a walk to bring home Scholl and make it a 3-2 ball game. That was as close as the Kingfish could get all night, as Kenosha left 11 batters on base for the second consecutive night.

On the mound, PJ Schuster was impressive after pitching out of the first inning jam. Schuster went six innings, giving up three runs and seven hits while striking out four. The always reliable Ryan Orr pitched three scoreless innings of relief for Kenosha to keep the Kingfish within striking distance. Schuster ended up taking the loss and Mark Ecker earned the win for the Loggers. Ecker lasted five innings, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. Ecker now owns a 1.80 ERA on the year. Tyler Provencher worked one and one third of an inning to get the save for La Crosse.

The Kingfish close out the home stand on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against the Madison Mallards for Ruffolo's Hair Studios Princess Night. Princess Elsa from Frozen will be making an appearance at Simmons Field and fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite princess. A costume parade will take place during the game to showcase all the royal guests at Simmons Field that night.
