
Captain James D. Hawkins to Throw out First Pitch

The Kingfish are proud to announce that Captain James D. Hawkins, Commanding Officer of the Naval Station Great Lakes, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Thursday night at Simmons Field.
A native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Captain James D. Hawkins is a 1987 graduate of St. Joseph High School and a 1991 graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering and a commission through Naval ROTC. Captain Hawkins was designated a Naval Flight Officer in the E-2C Hawkeye in February 1994. He assumed command of Naval Station Great Lakes on March 4, 2015.
Captain Hawkins has over 2300 hours and 500 arrested landings in the E-2C Hawkeye. He holds a masters degree from the Naval War College and is a graduate of the Naval Operational Planner Course and Joint Forces Staff College. Captain Hawkins's decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Strike Flight Air Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit and campaign awards. Captain Hawkins was a 2011 Stennis Center "Straight Furrow" award winner for outstanding leadership, professionalism, and integrity.
Earlier in the day, Kenosha Kingfish players and members of the Naval Station Great Lakes will be teaming up with United Way of Kenosha for a colorful service project at McKinley Elementary School to help brighten up the playground.
The Kingfish thank Captain Hawkins for his service and look forward to seeing him deliver a strike for the ceremonial first pitch on Thursday.
