YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Braves beat Bats 4-0 Monday at Louisville Slugger Field. Three Braves pitchers combined to blank the Bats, holding Louisville to just four hits. Andy Marte homered in the seventh to make it 2-0. Richmond added a run in the seventh on a Jonathan Schuerholz sacrifice fly. Scott Thorman chased a run home in the eighth with an RBI single to give the Braves a 4-0 lead. Kyle Davies tossed five innings to earn the win. He has pitched 12 consecutive scoreless innings since returning from Atlanta. Ken Ray threw two shutout innings and Frank Brooks completed the shutout with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Jimmy Serrano took the loss. Marte and Thorman had two hits each for Richmond. Miguel Perez had two hits for the Bats
ROTATION SENSATION: The five current members of the Braves starting pitching rotation (Kevin Barry, Kyle Davies, Adam Bernero, Chuck James, and Anthony Lerew) have allowed just 11 earned runs in their last 65.1 innings (nine starts, 0 games) for a 1.52 ERA. The Braves have gone eight straight games without allowing a first inning run
THE NUMBER CRUNCH: Kerry Robinson has a nine game hitting streak (15-31 .484). Richmond is last in the IL in batting average, runs scored, home runs, strikeouts by pitchers, and walks issued. Esix Snead's four game hitting streak ended yesterday. Scott Thorman has a four game multiple hit streak. He is nine for his last 14 (.643) with six RBI in his last four games. Andy Marte is six for his last eight. James Jurries has hits in three straight games (3-10 .300). John Barnes has hits in three straight (4-9 .444).
ROSTER MOVES: RHP Jim Brower accepted his Triple-A assignment by Atlanta and has joined the R-Braves. To make room for Brower, the Braves sent C Steve Pyzik to Myrtle Beach. The Braves roster is now 24 (12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders; four players are on the DL). The Braves have made 116 roster moves this season and lost 362 man-games to the disabled list. The Braves have used a total of 50 players this season.
GO THIEF: Esix Snead leads the IL in stolen bases. Snead's 46 stolen bases are tied for seventh best in R-Braves history. Only three R-Braves (Ed Miller, Ralph Garr, and Albert Hall) have stolen more than 50 in a season. Snead is trying to become the third player in IL history to lead the league in steals three straight years. The other two also played in Richmond (Len Johnston of the Virginians who did it 1956-58 and former R-Brave Ed Miller who did it 1978-80). Kerry Robinson led the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases when he joined the Braves June 22. Robinson's combined 37 steals is fourth best in Triple-A.
