Kane County Cougars News Release

Burlington, IA- The Kane County Cougars' offense produced five hits for the second straight night against the Burlington Bees, this time in a nail-biting 3-1 loss Friday night at Community Field. Myron Leslie's solo homer in the seventh gave the Cougars a chance, but they couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities in the next two innings.

Cougars starter Trent Peterson gave up a two-run single in the second to Cody Cure and a solo home run in the third to Rusty Brown for a 3-0 deficit. Kane County couldn't score against Bees right-hander Patrick Hicklen but did have chances. The Cougars stranded two men in the first, one in the second and had runners at first and second with one out in the sixth before a double play ended the threat. Peterson lasted six innings, gave up three runs on nine hits, walked one and fanned four.

Leslie blasted a majestic home run off Hicklen to lead off the seventh and cut the score to 3-1. After reliever Jared Trout worked a scoreless bottom half, the Cougars had a chance against Burlington's Gabe Dehoyos in the eighth. Gregorio Petit connected for a leadoff single and advanced to second on a passed ball, but two strikeouts and a groundout left him stranded. Rob Semerano kept the 3-1 score in the last of the eighth by starting an inning-ending double play. Leslie roped a one-out double in the ninth off closer Chad Blackwell to bring the tying run to the plate, but the next two Cougars couldn't get the game even.

Peterson (1-2) took the loss, and Hicklen (6-4) lasted seven innings for the win. Blackwell recorded his ninth save. The Cougars (15-13) try to snap the Bees' eight-game winning streak Saturday night at 7 CDT. Ryan Ford (9-4, 4.12) toes the rubber against right-hander Luis Cota (3-4, 3.58) for Burlington (17-11).
