July 22, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons, in collaboration with the Dayton Development Coalition, will host the second of three scheduled Milestone nights at Fifth Third Field on Saturday July 23rd, as part of the 7pm game against the South Bend Silver Hawks.
For Saturday's game, the Dragons and the Dayton Development Coalition have invited some special guests to Fifth Third Field. As part of the season-long celebration of our local heroes through a program call Hometown Heroes, the Dayton Development Coalition have invited three special groups to Fifth Third Field on three separate occasions. The Coalition and the Dragons will take time to honor deployed individuals who may have missed important "milestones" in their families' lives while on deployment from Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Springfield Air National Guard.
Before and during Saturday's game, select families who were unable to celebrate together their child's birthday due to their deployment, will be honored and hosted by the Dayton Development Coalition. Activities for Saturday's festivities are listed below:
Missed Birthday Milestone activities:
* (5:00 - 6:00 pm): Pre-game dinner for military personnel and families from the bases, in a themed birthday party room at Fifth Third Field
* Representative of Dayton Development Coalition will speak to group
* Dragons mascots Heater and Gem to make appearance at dinner
* Commemorative photo will be taken of each family at dinner, gifts provided to each birthday child
* Cake presentation and singing of "Happy Birthday" by Dragons "Green Team" at conclusion of dinner
* Surprise visit by Dragons manager Alonzo Powell
* (Pre-game): An invited parent and child will be randomly selected to throw ceremonial first pitch
* (In-game): A video montage of pre-game festivities to be shown during an inning break to invited guests on the field and all fans in attendance
* (In-game): One parent and child to be interviewed by Dragons Announcer Mike Benton on radio
