Quebec nails Aces

August 17, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Aces News Release

While the game looked drastically different from yesterday's game, the final outcome remained the same, and Les Capitales walked away from the Aces winners 2-1.

Lance Franks pitched a gem for Quebec, holding the Aces to just six hits and striking out six while only allowing a single run. However Franks simply didn't get the run support and left with no decision. Les Capitales jumped ahead in the fourth off of a Rickie Morton solo homerun, but they failed to muster any more offense for most of the game.

The Aces managed to tie the game on an Ed Gerald sacrifice grounder in the eighth, putting the game at 1-1. Matt Hoyt would pitch the ninth allowing just one hit for Quebec, putting the game back into the hands of Morton, who led off the ninth. As it turns out, a Lee Delfino triple, not another Morton homerun would be the deciding factor.

Delfino tripled following a Morton pop-out, and was driven in to score the game-winning run by Olivier Lepine. The win puts Quebec on top of the North division by two games over second-place North Shore as the league enters the home stretch of the season.
