Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira, NY- Despite getting out to an early 2-0 lead the Pioneers couldn't hold off the Lumberjacks who managed to take the lead and ultimately the game with a five run fourth inning, eventually going on to a 9-3 win over the Pioneers on Tuesday night.
The Pio's picked up a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI double from Yuji Nerei, his 29th RBI of the season. Nerei then scored with two outs on a throwing error by 'Jacks Second Baseman Rolando Bello to make it 2-0. Bangor would cut the Elmira lead in half in the third on a Brad Hargreaves RBI double. In the fourth the 'Jacks opened the flood gates, scoring five times on a couple of two-run doubles from Paul Powell and Bello before Hargreaves capped off the inning with his second RBI of the night on a single to right. In the fifth Jose Garcia hit a solo homer to straight away center to increase the Bangor lead to five. The Lumberjacks would add two more runs in the sixth, one on a wild pitch from Ryan Cosentino and the other an RBI single from Kazuhiro Kohno.
In the eighth the Pioneers managed to pick up a run off an RBI single by Cleatus Davidson, but that would be it for the Pio's as they went on to fall 9-3.
Joe Van Gorder took the loss for Elmira allowing seven runs, six earned on ten hits in five innings of work.
The Pioneers and Lumberjacks will be back at it again tomorrow night at Dunn Field, game time is slated for 7:05.
