Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, a proud member of the Northeast League, announced today that they have acquired 1B Josh Tranum from the Jackson (MS) Senators of the Central League for future considerations and cash.
Tranum, 25, is hitting .269 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI. His 15 home runs place him third in the league and his 74 RBI lead the circuit. Coming into the Northeast League, his power numbers would rank him first in RBI and third in home runs. Tranum also is second in the league in extra base hits with 38, while walking 68 times in 323 at-bats.
A native of Middleton, TN, Tranum was signed by Dubois County of the independent Frontier League in 2002 and after hitting .330-9-62 with the Dragons, was signed by the San Diego Padres. Josh played 36 games in their organization before being released. Last season with Jackson, he hit .282 with four home runs and 35 RBI, helping the Sens win the Central League Championship.
Standing at 6 foot 3, 210 pounds, Tranum also brings a solid glove to first base. In 344 total chances last season, he committed just three errors.
The trade was necessitated by the Lumberjacks placing 1B/DH Donnie Ross (.327-14-30) on the disabled list. The Lumberjacks also placed INF Ryan Kane on the Inactive List. Kane's season came to an end this weekend with an injury against the Aces. The Lumberjacks retain his rights for next season.
The Lumberjacks are back at the Wink on Friday, August 20 for a doubleheader against the Aces at 5 PM for the Lumberjacks Brewer Wal-Mart Super center Halloween Night. Fans are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes for free entry to the game and to win great prizes at a costume contest between games. The Lumberjacks players will be wearing special Halloween uniforms that will be auctioned off via a silent auction during the games with proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network. For tickets, call the Lumberjacks at (207) 947-1900, stop in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall, or go to the Jacks website at www.bangorlumberjacks.com.
