Cutters Power Over Rox 6-3; New Haven Hits Three Home Runs in Win

New Haven County Cutters News Release


Brockton, MA- The New Haven County Cutters used of three long balls, snapped a five game losing streak on Tuesday, defeating the Brockton Rox 6-3 at Campanelli Stadium. The win is New Haven's first road victory against Brockton this season. The two teams play the rubber match of the series on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05pm.

In the third, Brockton starter Miguel Baez issued a four pitch walk to Hector Lebron putting a runner on base for Jimmy Hurst who hit a two run blast, his 13th of the season deep over the centerfield wall to extend the Cutters lead to 3-0.

In the fourth, after Aaron Fera singled, third basemen Jeff Brooks hit his second homer of the year, a two run shot, as the Cutters opened up a 5-0 lead. Later in the game, Brooks added his third RBI of the night, driving home a run with a single to extend the New Haven lead to 6-0.

Through the first five innings, Cutters' starter Tony Harden kept the Rox scoreless, retiring twelve batters in a row at one point. However, in the sixth the right hander allowed five singles as the Rox scored three times including a RBI single by Tommy Joyce that knocked Harden out of the game. Lefty Greg McCarthy came on to replace Harden and was able to get out of the jam.

In the seventh, McCarthy made quick work of the Rox, retiring the side on four pitches and preserving the 6-3 lead.

New Haven starter Tony Harden (4-5) tossed 5.2 innings of three run ball to earn the win. Miguel Baez (0-1), making his first start for the Rox lasted four innings, allowing five runs on six hits and took the loss. Closer Shane Waroff worked a perfect ninth to pick up his thirteenth save of the season.
