Pioneers Swept Away By Capitales

Elmira, NY- Quebec jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back as they completed a three game sweep of the Pioneers by a final of 9-3 Sunday afternoon at Dunn Field.

Quebec's sweep of Elmira marked only the second time the Pioneers have been swept at home this season.

Pioneers starter Mike Howell got stuck with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits before leaving the game with an arm injury in the second inning. Bric Steed came on in relief and allowed three more runs over the next 2 2/3 innings as Quebec went up 5-0 through the first four innings.

In the sixth the Pioneers would manage to score two runs as Amaury Casana drove home Clay Kuklick from third, while Jason Tuttle scored from second thanks to an error by Eddie Lantigua. Unfortunately for the Pio's that's as close as things would get as Quebec tacked on four more runs in the seventh to take a 9-2 lead.

Kuklick would provide the final Pioneers' run in the bottom half of the seventh as he doubled to the gap in left-center to bring in Samone Peters from third. The RBI double was the first career run batted in for Kuklick who finished the day 2-2.

Julien Tucker got the win for Quebec going six innings while allowing two runs, one earned on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

In addition to Kuklick's two hit day Jobu Morita also chipped in with a pair of knocks going 2-4 with a stolen base on the afternoon.
