QUEBEC 9, ELMIRA 3 @ Elmira, N.Y. Time: 3:05 ATT: 1,013 W: Julien Tucker (7-5) L: Mike Howell (6-9) S: None HR: QUE - Josh Fulton (1), Simon Legare (6) Quebec used a decent performance from starter Julien Tucker and cruised to the series sweep of Elmira, winning 9-3. Tucker went six innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out four for his seventh victory of the season. The Capitales got their first run on reigning Batter of the Week RF Simon Legare's solo jack in the first, and then added three more in the second. SS Josh Fulton hit his first home run as a Capitale in the fourth, making the lead 5-0 before Elmira scored two unearned runs in the sixth. Quebec added to their lead with four in the seventh on an RBI single from CF Benoit Emond, a two-run single from 2B TJ Shimizu and an RBI double from LF Buck McNabb. Shimizu finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while 2B Jobu Morita and C Clay Kuklick both had two hits for the Pioneers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NORTH SHORE 6, GRAYS 5 @ Lynn, Mass. Time: 3:16 ATT: 2,659 W: Ryan McCally (4-2) L: Evan Neiser (1-3) S: Alex Herrera (9) HR: NS - Brian Macchi (8) North Shore kept pace with Brockton in the North Division race, breaking a 5-5 tie in the eighth when LF Garrett Weir scored on a two-out wild pitch. Down 2-0, the Spirit tied the game in the third on RF Brian Macchi's two-run double, and took the lead on Macchi's two-run homer in the fifth. With North Shore leading 5-3, the Grays tied it at five in the seventh on RBI singles from C Brad Hargreaves and CF Bernard Caston, before the Spirit went ahead for good in the eighth. Macchi and SS Cleatus Davidson both went 3-for-4 for North Shore; 3B Scott Grimes had a 3-for-4 day for the Grays. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW HAVEN COUNTY 3, WORCESTER 2 @ Worcester, Mass. Time: 3:16 ATT: 3,329 W: Brad Whitworth (7-5) L: Mike Cox (4-5) S: Mark Comolli (8) HR: NHC - Jeff Brooks (10), Keith Stegbauer (2) New Haven County got a badly-needed 3-2 victory over Worcester to move two games ahead of the Tornadoes in the South race. The Cutters got two in the fourth on DH Jeff Brooks' leadoff home run and a bases-loaded walk to SS Chas Terni, and another in the sixth on 3B Keith Stegbauer's solo shot. Worcester came back with two in the seventh on C Danilo Reynoso's RBI ground-rule double and 2B Alex Nunez's RBI single, but that was as close as the Tornadoes would get, as Andy Weimer and Mark Comolli shut the door the rest of the way. Brad Whitworth got the win for New Haven, giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work, striking out six. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BROCKTON 7, NEW JERSEY 6 @ Little Falls, N.J. Time: 2:48 ATT: 2,004 W: Brad Guy (1-3) L: Shawn Morgan (0-1) S: Tony Stutz (5) HR: NJ - Hector Lebron (14), Jake Whitesides (1) Brockton got twelve hits and held off a late New Jersey charge, winning the rubber game of the series 7-6. The Rox trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth, but got two runs in that inning and three more in the seventh to take the lead; New Jersey closed the gap in the ninth with Jake Whitesides' two-out, two run home run, making it a 7-6 game, until Tony Stutz came in to shut the door for his fifth save of the season. DH Kris Zacuto was 3-for-3 with three RBI for Brockton, while CF Zach Smithlin went 3-for-4 for the Jackals.
