Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Visalia, CA - A three-run sixth inning put Visalia ahead to stay, as the Rawhide downed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday evening, winning 6-4 at Recreation Ballpark in Visalia.
Alex Glenn's two-run homer off of Quakes' reliever Brock Stewart gave Visalia the lead for good, snapping a 3-3 tie and helping Visalia to just their second win in six tries against the Quakes in Visalia.
The Quakes fell behind early, as Daniel Palka blasted a two-run home run off Rancho starter Trevor Oaks in the first inning, putting the Rawhide in front, 2-0.
Visalia added a run in the third, as Diamondbacks' rehabber Phi Gosselin singled home Kevin Medrano to make it 3-0.
Rancho finally rallied with three in the fourth off Rawhide starter Ryan Doran. Jacob Scavuzzo cracked a one-out homer to put the Quakes on the board, his 11th of the year and second in as many nights. Paul Hoenecke, Kyle Garlick and Tyler Ogle followed with consecutive hits, with Ogle's single scoring Hoenecke, to make it 3-2. After Joey Curletta struck out for the second out, Ogle got caught in an intentional rundown between first and second, allowing Garlick to score, evening the game at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the sixth, when Glenn smashed a Stewart offering over the right-field wall for a two-runs hot, giving the Rawhide a 5-3 lead. Stewart (2-4) gave up another run in the inning, as Tyler Baker doubled and later scored on a two-out hit by Gosselin, making it 6-3.
The Quakes got a run back in the eighth, as Willie Calhoun doubled Spencer Navin to make it 6-4. But with the tying run at the plate, Scavuzzo flew out and Hoenecke grounded out, allowing reliever Steve Hathaway to keep the 'Hide in front.
In the ninth, Visalia closer Nick Sarianides worked a 1-2-3 frame for his league-leading 22nd save of the year.
Visalia reliever Bud Jeter (3-0) struck out the only hitter he faced in the sixth inning, picking up the win for the Rawhide.
Rancho (28-26, 69-55) will send Scott Barlow (6-2) to the mound on Saturday night, as he'll take on Visalia (34-20, 76-48) right-hander Markus Solbach (1-0) at 7:00pm.
After this current eight-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, August 28th, taking on the San Jose Giants in the opening game of a four-game home stand. Friday the 28th is another Family RV $1 Family Feast, as fans can enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches throughout the night for just one dollar each.
