Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Visalia, CA - Scott Barlow dominated for the third straight outing, as the Quakes bested the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night, 7-2 at Recreation Ballpark in Visalia.
Barlow allowed just one run over six innings, the third straight start in which he's allowed one run or less, giving Rancho their second win through the first three games of the four-game set.
Devan Ahart and Kyle Garlick both homered and finished with three hits to help the Quakes even their road-record at 31-31 this year.
Rancho wasted little time, as Ahart, Garlick and Alex Verdugo all singled to open the game, with Verdugo's knocking in Ahart for a 1-0 lead. Jacob Scavuzzo and Paul Hoenecke each followed with an RBI groundout, helping the Quakes to a 3-0 advantage over Visalia starter Marcus Solbach.
Ahart and Garlick hit back-to-back homers in the third, opening up a 5-0 advantage for the Quakes. The long-ball for Ahart was his third and first since coming off the disabled list, while Garlick slugged his fourth in just nine games as a Quake.
Barlow was touched for a run in the last of the third, as Daniel Palka's two-out single knocked in a run to put Visalia on the board at 5-1.
The Quakes got single runs in the fifth and sixth, taking a 7-1 lead. Garlick singled home his second run of the game in the fifth, while Tyler Ogle walked and later scored on a wild pitch to cap the Rancho scoring against Solbach (1-1).
Barlow (7-2) worked through the sixth inning, striking out six, while scattering six hits. Michael Johnson came on in the seventh and allowed a run, as Alex Glenn's sac fly plated a run to make it 7-2.
That's as close as the Rawhide would get, as Josh Sborz worked around a pair of base-runners in a scoreless eighth, while Karch Kowalczyk did the same in a scoreless ninth.
The Quakes (29-26, 70-55) will send Pablo Fernandez (2-1) to the mound on Sunday evening at 6:00pm, as he'll take on Visalia (34-21, 76-49) right-hander Archie Bradley (0-0), who's down from the Arizona Diamondbacks on a minor league rehab assignment.
After this current eight-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, August 28th, taking on the San Jose Giants in the opening game of a four-game home stand. Friday the 28th is another Family RV $1 Family Feast, as fans can enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches throughout the night for just one dollar each. Tickets are available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000.
