Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Francis Martes pitched his fourth straight quality start for the JetHawks, who took the four game series, three-games-to-one, in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday night at The Diamond.
Martes (4-1) tossed seven scoreless innings for the JetHawks (66-60), allowing the Storm (46-80) just five hits while striking out three and walking none. The win gave Lancaster its 11th shutout of the season and second of the series.
Mott Hyde went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and three runs batted in for the JetHawks. James Ramsay went 3-for-5 in the contest, and Chase McDonald hit his 27th home run of the season.
Lancaster scored first in the top of the third, when Edwin Medina and Ramsay hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with one out. Medina then came home on Hyde's sacrifice fly to right field.
Hyde added onto the JetHawks' lead in the fifth, hitting a two-run double to left field off starter Kyle Lloyd (6-10) to score Ramsay and Ruben Castro. Lloyd took the loss for the Storm, yielding three runs on five hits and three walks through five innings of work.
McDonald led off the sixth with a home run to right-center off reliever Ryan Butler for a 4-0 JetHawks lead, and a Ramsay single in the seventh inning plated Medina, who had doubled.
Lancaster reliever Jordan Mills pitched a perfect eighth but allowed a one-out single and a hit-by-pitch with one out in the ninth. Mills, however, went on to record a strikeout and a flyout to left field to give the JetHawks the series victory, three games to one.
For the third time in the four-game series, Lancaster pitching did not issue a walk.
The JetHawks return home on Monday to open a seven-game homestand, beginning with a four-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Austin Chrismon (6-3, 4.22) will pitch for Lancaster while Rancho Cucamonga sends Chase De Jong (3-3, 3.08) to the mound. The JetHawks will host Make-A-Difference Monday, presented by Time Warner Cable.
