Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are in the win column for the first time in 2016, beating the Lake Elsinore Storm, 6-4 on Friday night at LoanMart Field.

Quakes starter Brock Stewart (1-0) dazzled in his season debut, going five scoreless innings and allowing just four base-runners. He struck out two while notching his first win of the season.

Five of the six Quakes runs came in the third inning. Tim Locastro led off the inning with a double, and advanced to third on an Erick Mejia sacrifice bunt. Andrew Toles was hit by a pitch and stole second base, putting runners on second and third with just one out. Then, Dodgers rehabber Howie Kendrick stepped to the plate and laced a two-run double to the left-center gap, giving the Quakes their first lead of the season, 2-0. After a Johan Mieses strikeout, Kyle Garlick walked, and Yusneil Diaz hit a routine ground ball to Storm shortstop Javier Guerra, who committed an error by sending a low throw to first base.

The Quakes took advantage of the extra out, and with the bases loaded, Joey Curletta lined a bases-clearing double off the center-field wall to make it 5-0 Quakes after three innings. That chased Storm starter Thomas Dorminy (0-1) who went just 2.2 innings, allowing four hits, five runs (two earned) and walking two while taking the loss.

Rancho Cucamonga added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Johan Mieses went deep off Storm reliever Trevor Seidenberger to make it 6-0 Quakes. It was Mieses' first home run of the season.

The Storm's four runs came courtesy of two two-run home runs, one by Josh VanMeter and the other by Fernando Perez. Both home runs were their first of the season, and hit off of Quakes relievers Luis De Paula and A.J. Vanegas, respectively.

Kyle Hooper followed Stewart out of the Quakes bullpen and was Rancho's best reliever on Friday. He struck out five of the six batters he faced over his two innings of work.

Game three of the series between the Storm and the Quakes continues on Saturday night, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Rancho (1-1) will send Grant Holmes (0-0) to the mound on Saturday in his Quakes' debut, while Lake Elsinore (1-1) will counter with Martires Arias (0-0) in the third game of the set.

The first 1,500 fans to Saturday's game will take home a desktop replica 2015 Cal League Championship ring, and everyone will enjoy postgame fireworks presented by LoanMart. Tickets are still available for Saturday's game by calling the Quakes ticket office at (909) 481-5000 or by visiting rcquakes.com.
