Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 19, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9-7 on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.
Southern Maryland got on the board first with a five-run third inning against Ducks' starter Ruddy Lugo. A solo homer by Jeremy Owens, a two-run single by Adam Godwin, and a RBI base hit off the bat of Christian Lopez did the damage. A RBI double for Kennard Jones and Ray Navarrete's three-run homer to left-center cut the deficit to 5-4.
Jones' second consecutive RBI double in the fourth scored Kraig Binick, who tripled, to tie the game at five. However, a solo homer from Brian Barton in the fifth put the `Crabs back ahead. It stayed that way until the sixth when Javier Colina hit a towering two-run homer to left, giving the Ducks a 7-6 lead they would never relinquish.
Lugo (4-1) settled down to pick up the win, tossing six innings, allowing six runs (five earned) with a strikeout. Jason Waddell (3-5) was saddled with the loss, yielding three runs on three hits in one and two-thirds innings. Bubbie Buzachero earned his 12th save after pitching the ninth.
