Barnstormers Hold off Patriots 6-5

Bridgewater, NJ- The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night to take both games of the day-night double header.

A bunt base hit by Giberto Mejia to leadoff the game set the tone for the Barnstormers, who went on to score three runs for the early lead. RBI hits by Matt Watson, Aaron Herr, and Adam Calderone drove home the runs for Lancaster.

Tommy Everidge (14) drove a solo homerun over the left field wall in the second to give the Barnstormers a 4-0 advantage.

Somerset scored in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Fernando Cortez and a sacrifice fly by Jeff Nettles to make the score 4-2.

Lancaster added to their lead in the sixth after Iggy Suarez singled and scored on an RBI double by Mejia and J.C. Holt followed with a single to plate Mejia for the 6-2 lead.

The Patriots cut the lead to three after John Pachot doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by Norris Hopper to make the score 6-3.

Somerset rallied to score two more in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Hopper, his second of the game, and a sacrifice fly by Michael Hernandez to cut the lead to 6-5.

Lancaster starter J.D. Durbin (4-1) got the win after allowing three runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Somerset starter Bill Pulsipher (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on ten hits in five innings pitched. Jonah Bayliss picked up his eighth save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday Night as the Patriots take on the Lancaster Barnstormers.
