Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 19, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Kyle Zaleski. Zaleski makes his Bluefish debut during his sixth season of professional baseball. The righthander spent time earlier this year with St. Paul of the American Association, totaling a 1-1 record with an 1.88 ERA and 14 strikeouts over three starts (14.1 innings).
"Kyle will be a solid addition to our pitching staff," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "We look forward to his contributions during the second half of the season."
Zaleski begins his second Atlantic League stint, having played for Southern Maryland last season. The 29-year-old impressed with the Blue Crabs in his two outings, allowing just two hits and one run in four innings while fanning four batters. He was then traded to Pittsfield of the Can-Am League, where he compiled an 8-6 record in 20 appearances (16 starts) with a 3.88 ERA and 79 strikeouts over 106.2 innings of work.
In his career, Kyle has also pitched for Sioux Falls of the American Association, Alexandria of the Continental Baseball League, Joliet of the Northern League, El Paso of the Central League, and Gateway of the Frontier League. He has compiled a career record of 15-13 with a 4.07 ERA, 236 strikeouts, and 280.2 innings pitched in 100 appearances (27 starts). Zaleski was originally signed in 2004 by Gateway of the Frontier League out of Illinois State University.
To make room on the roster, the Bluefish have placed pitcher Will Cunnane on the Inactive List.
