Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

A 10-game homestand ended Monday night for the Chattanooga Lookouts as a resounding success.

The Lookouts won their season-best seventh straight game and completed a five-game sweep of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Monday at AT&T Field with a 11-1 shellacking of the cellar-dwelling Wahoos. Three pitchers combined for a five-hitter to enable the Lookouts (23-27) to suddenly move from the Southern League North cellar into third place -- only three games back of the Tennessee Smokies in second.

Leading the way once again was slugging Cuban free agent signee Yasiel Puig. Having driven in five runs in the last two games -- and having six RBIs for the series -- Puig Monday homered twice, good for five RBIs. The first came in the first inning, clearing the center field wall by a healthy margin good for a 3-0 lead.

Gorman Erickson's solo homer in the second inning made it 4-0, and Puig delivered again in the fourth with a man on. But the slugest wasn't over as Erickson connected again, this time with a man on, in the seventh.

Erickson added a fourth RBI on a bases loaded walk, while new first baseman Angelo Songcro also drove in two run.

The only negative to the night was that new starter Michael Thomas was unable to benefit from all the runs to pick up the win. Thomas, who began the year as the closer for Rancho Cucamonga, turned in four strong innings, allowing only two hits and striking out four.

Newly arrived Joel Lima (1-0), promoted from Class A Great Lakes, earned the victory with three solid innings of his own, allowing the Wahoos their only run (on Theo Bowe's pinch-hit double). and Greg Infante wrapped up the strong showing with two shutout innings.

Joc Pederson, now second in the Southern League in hitting, was 1-for-3 with two walks and ended the night at .324.

The Lookouts take their wiin streak to Mobile Tuesday night for a five-game series. Game time will be at 8:05 Eastern.
