The Stars... The Stars are in their 29th season as a franchise. Prior to becoming part of the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 1999, the Stars were the Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics for 14 seasons. Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Stars have won three Southern League Championships ('85, '94, '01).
Introducing: The Smokies... The Tennessee Smokies have been the Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate since 2007. The Stars and Smokies have already played a series against each other this year, in which the Smokies took four of five games at Joe Davis Stadium on April 15th-19th. In nine games this year between the two teams, Huntsville is 3-6 against Tennessee.
Momentous May... In 23 games during the month of May, the Stars are 13-11 overall. In contrast, Huntsville just went 9-16 during the entire month of April.
Winning Ways... With tonight against Tennessee Smokies, the Stars will ensure themselves their third consecutive series victory. Overall, the Stars have won nine of their last 14 games.
Rubber Matches... As Huntsville and Tennessee have their series tied at two games apiece, the rubber match on Monday night will be the Stars fifth of the sorts this season. In series-deciding games this season, the Stars are 1-3, winning their last rubber match against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park (5/16).
Quality Starts... Overall, the Stars have gotten eight straight quality starts from their starters. Combined, RHP Ariel Pena (12.1 IP, 1 ER), RHP Taylor Jungmann (13.0 IP, 5 ER), RHP Andy Moye (14.0 IP, 3 ER), RHP Arcenio Leon (6.0 IP, 2 ER) and RHP Jimmy Nelson (7 IP, 2 ER) have a 2.25 ERA over that time.
Who's Hot... C Robinzon Diaz has 10 hits in his last 19 at-bats (.526).
Who's Not... INF Nick Shaw his one hit in his last 14 at-bats.
Roster Moves... On Saturday, C Adam Weisenburger was activated from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, C Joey Paciorek was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to 5/22). The Stars active roster sits at 25, the Southern League Maximum.
Previous Game... With an opportunity to clinch their third straight series victory, the Stars dropped game four of a five-game set against the Smokies by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. Despite giving the Stars their eighth straight quality start, RHP Andy Moye took the loss, falling to 2-6 on the year after giving up three runs in six innings while striking out six batters. On offense, Huntsville was paced by 1B Jason Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with a double. Catcher Shawn Zarraga also came through with an RBI double while the Stars scored their other run on a sacrifice fly by OF Rene Tosoni.
