Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Barons picked up a win in their series finale against the Huntsville Stars Friday, winning by a final score of 2-1 in front of 7,083 fans at Regions Field.

For the 54th time this season the Barons got on the board first, this time on a solo home run by Cody Puckett, his 8th of the season. Puckett would finish 2-for-3 on the night.

The score would remain 1-0 until the sixth when Keenyn Walker lined a one-out triple into the right field corner and scored on a sacrifice fly by Trayce Thompson to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.

The Stars would get a run back in the 7th on a Mike Walker RBI single. The run would be the only blemish against starter Michael Nix (1-1, 3.86) who allowed just four hits and struck out six over 6.2 IP while picking up his first win since joining the Barons.

The Stars threatened in the 9th, putting the tying run on second base against Kevin Vance but he was able to escape trouble by striking out Adam Weisenburger and Mike Walker to end the game, picking up his third save in the process.

The tough-luck loser was Andy Moye (3-9, 4.59) who allowed two runs on seven hits in an 8.0 inning complete game effort.

On his bobblehead night, Jared Mitchell finished 2-for-3 with two doubles as the Barons improved to 50-30 on the season and 6-4 in the second half. The loss dropped the Stars to 31-47 on the year and 2-8 in the second half.

The Barons will head on the road for a five game series against the Jackson Generals starting tomorrow. The Barons will send LHP Scott Snodgress (8-6, 4.78) to the mound in game one against LHP Roenis Elias (3-7, 3.06). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT.
