Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, N.C. - Two of America's favorite pastimes are teaming up for an unbeatable pairing of professional baseball and some of the best craft beers available in the Carolinas this season at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
"Craft Beer Wednesdays" begins its season with The Intimidators, featuring various local and regional breweries and delicious foods from chefs and restaurants in the Kannapolis area, on April 28th. The Kannapolis baseball team is proud to team up with The Charlotte Beer Club throughout the entire 2010 season to host Craft Beer Wednesdays at the stadium. The Charlotte Beer Club is a group of more than 800 beer aficionados that meet regularly in the Charlotte region to support great craft beer & local charities.
"The craft beer movement in the Carolinas has experienced major growth over the last 5 years thanks in part to nearby Asheville, NC being host to the 2nd largest group of breweries per capita in the United States," said Darrin Pikarsky, founder of the Charlotte Beer Club and the recently completed, Charlotte Craft Beer Week. "Beer and baseball have always been together and now we are in a position to offer some great choices at the ball park."
"The combination of baseball and great beers from the region is going to be something special for our fans attending the games this season," said Tim Mueller, vice president of the Intimidators. "We are excited to be able to support local breweries and restaurants from the Carolinas."
Craft Beer Wednesdays start on April 28th, 2010 and will continue on Wednesday home games throughout the 2010 season. Also one Wednesday per month, the stadium will host a beer tasting that will feature four or five craft breweries, each bringing two beers that will be available for sampling on Wednesdays. Fans will be able to purchase tickets to sample the beers and enjoy great foods on the 3rd base side terrace starting at 5pm, all while enjoying the Kannapolis Intimidators game which begins at 7:05pm. For the first of the beer tastings on the 28th, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery will be sampling their Copper and Mecklenburger brews. Sam Adams will be sampling their Coastal Wheat and Sam Adams Pale Ale. United Beverages will be sampling Ranger IPA, Fat Tire-Skinny Dip and Magic Hat #9. Silver Eagle will be sampling Carolina Strawberry Blond Ale and Landshark. Packages are also available for children and non-drinking adults, to be able to enjoy the food and soft drinks. Tickets for the events will be sold at the Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium Box Office.
