Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Hickory Crawdads (9-10) clawed the Savannah Sand Gnats 11-2 to hand the Gnats (12-7) their most lopsided defeat of 2010 at Historic Grayson Stadium Monday night.
The Crawdads began the game's scoring when left fielder Christian Santana homered down the left field line against Gnats starter Brandon Moore. The Crawdads made it 6-0 with a four-run third inning helped along by two Gnats errors and a two-run home run by catcher Vinny DiFazio. Moore lasted three innings, giving up six runs, four earned on six hits in his second start for the Gnats this year. Hickory added two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings off reliever Lance Hoge to make the score 10-0.
Savannh got on the scoreboard thanks to doubles from DH Alex Gregory and LF Juan Lagares in the fifth inning. 1B Jeff Flagg's solo home run to left center field leading off the bottom of the eighth inning accounted for the second Sand Gnats run.
Gnats SS Wilmer Flrores was 0-5 with three strikeouts to end his ten-game hitting streak.
The Gnats conclude their four-game series with Hickory on Tuesday night when LHP Darrin Gorski (1-0, 1.29) takes on RHP Neil Ramirez (1-1, 5.40) at 7:05 pm. The Gnats pregame show on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and online at www.sandgnats.com begins at 6:50.
