Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The West Virginia Power set a number of season-highs amongst their offensive statistics in 2010 as they belted out 17 hits and defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators by the score of 8-1 on Monday night.
The Power (8-10) got off to a hot start in the first inning scoring two runs, but really picked up steam in the fourth. In that inning, off of Intimidators (9-10) starter Cameron Bayne, the Power led off with a single by Rogelio Noris followed by the first of two triples off the bat of Kyle Morgan, plating a run. After a strikeout, Ramon Cabrera batted one past a drawn-in infield which was followed by two more hits and a bases loaded walk. Three runs in the fourth made it 5-0, but the Power were not done yet.
Bayne (1-3) lasted four innings, allowing five runs, three earned. In the seventh, off Brandon Kloess, Morgan led off with a single before being hit home on a Cabrera triple. Bengie Gonzalez singled home Cabrera for the Power's seventh run of the game. A solo home run to right-center by Aaron Baker made it 8-1 and closed the scoring on the day.
The Power totaled those 17 hits, three triples, a double and a home run. Ramon Cabrera had four hits, his first career four-hit game and Baker had both a double and a home run. The previous high for hits in a game for the Power was 12. The Intimidators had allowed 16 hits once this season.
Not to be over-looked by the hitting display was the starting pitching of Kyle McPherson. McPherson (1-2) worked seven very strong innings, allowing only a single run to score in the fourth inning. Nick Ciolli started that inning off with a single and was doubled home by Ian Gac. The Intimidators had three doubles in the first four innings and were held to just one run. McPherson allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three for his first win of the season. Ryan Kelly pitched two scoreless innings to cap off the game.
The Intimidators have failed in two attempts to go a game above the .500 mark and will look to get their record even in a 10:05 am game on Tuesday. In the series finale, the Intimidators will send Matt Wickswat (0-1) to the mound in search of his first win and he will be opposed by righty Gabriel Alvarado (0-1) in search of the same.
