Butler Named SAL Player Of The Week

Greenville, SC - The South Atlantic League announced on Monday that Drive catcher Dan Butler has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for April 19 through 25.

In five games during the week, Butler hit .450 (9-for-20) with a pair of homers, seven runs batted in, and five runs scored.

Butler's batting average ranked second in the 14-team league, while his slugging percentage (.950) and OPS (1.426) were both tops in the league.

A former University of Arizona Wildcat, Butler's week was highlighted by his performance on April 22nd at West Virginia.

In that game, Butler recorded both of his home runs and knocked in three runs as the Drive went onto defeat the Power, 6-1.

Heading into Tuesday night's matchup with the Lexington Legends at Fluor Field, Butler was second on the team in batting, among qualifiers, with a .286 (12-for-42) average.

He leads the Drive with three homers and is tied for the team-lead with nine RBI and 10 runs scored.

Eight of Butler's 12 hits have gone for extra bases.

Butler signed with the Boston Red Sox organization as a non-drafted free agent on July 28th, 2009 and spent the majority of last season with the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League.

After appearing in 22 games with Lowell, Butler appeared in one game with the Salem Red Sox before returning to the Spinners for the league playoffs.
