BlueClaws To Reenact Kentucky Derby On May 4th

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Kentucky Derby is coming to...FirstEnergy Park?

The BlueClaws, with the help of Monmouth Park, will reenact the Kentucky Derby during at their May 4th game. The Derby will be run for the 136th time on Saturday in Louisville.

BlueClaws staffers, in silks, will reenact the Derby from three days earlier on the field between innings at that night's BlueClaws game, in what promises to be the most exciting in-game promotion of the year.

"The Kentucky Derby is one of the greatest sporting traditions in the United States," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We're honored to bring a part of it to Lakewood."

This is the first time the BlueClaws have ever reenacted a recent sporting event.

The horses will parade in the paddock (Kids Zone) prior to the start of the race. They will then make their way onto the field between innnigs for the official reenactment.

Also that night, the first 2,000 fans 17 & under will receive Horse Webkinz.

Monmouth Park, in Oceanport, will open their racing season on May 22nd. This year, they will have purses of $1 million per day and race Friday-Saturday- Sundays through Labor Day.
