Prince Albert falls in regular season finale in Saskatoon

Saskatoon, SK - Nikita Soshnin scored the game-winning goal at the 6:28 mark of the third period as the Saskatoon Blades edged the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in their final game of the WHL regular season at the SaskTel Centre on Saturday night.

With a number of regulars out of the line-up, the Raiders went back-and-forth in a spirited affair. Evgeni Astrouski and Zack Hayes both played in their WHL debuts, while a number of other players were given additional ice time.

Simon Stransky and Tim Vanstone scored goals for the Raiders during the first period. Cody Paivarinta and Drew Warkentine notched assists.

The Blades were led on the night by Cameron Hebig who recorded a goal and one assist for two points. Saskatoon also got tallies from Nolan Reid and Soshnin.

Prince Albert's Ian Scott stopped 26 of 29 shots on goal, while Brock Hamm turned away 20 of 22 attempts in the Saskatoon net.

The Blades outshot the Raiders 29-22. Prince Albert was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Saskatoon went 1-for-4.

The Raiders finish the regular season with a 38-26-7-1 record, while the Blades end the year with a 26-42-4-0 record.

The Raiders will host Game 1 of their first round series on Friday, March 25 and Game 2 on Saturday, March 26.
