Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Correlle Prime delivered in the clutch Tuesday at AirHogs Stadium, lining a walkoff single to right field in the bottom of the ninth to give the Texas AirHogs a 5-4 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders. The walkoff win was the second straight in Grand Prairie. The team walked off Sioux Falls Sunday on a home run by Stewart Ijames.
Meng Weiqiang got the start for the AirHogs and allowed two runs over the first two innings. The bats quickly bailed him out though, with Luan Chenchen going off for an RBI triple in the second to make it 2-1. The AirHogs loaded the bases with two outs vs. Cleburne starter Patrick Mincey in the third and took the lead on an RBI walk by Chen Chen and an RBI base hit by Casio Grider.
A key relay to the plate started by Dillon Thomas on a shot to the gap in the sixth by Blake Grant-Parks caught Quinn Irey trying to score to preserve the 3-2 advantage.
In the eighth, the AirHogs got an insurance run off Cortland Cox when player-coach Na Chuang picked up another two-out RBI with a base hit to left.
After Yang Yanyong and Taylor Wright combined for three scoreless innings in the sixth through the eighth, Carlos Contreras entered to go for the save in the ninth. He had Cleburne down to their last strike twice, but ultimately surrendered two runs to force a bottom of the ninth.
With one out, substitute center fielder Lu Zhenhong, who entered the game in the seventh, tagged Cleburne reliever Shawn Blackwell for a base hit. Thomas followed with a base hit of his own to make it men on the corners before Prime delivered the game-winning swing.
Blackwell (4-5) suffered the loss, while Contreras (2-0) picked up the win. Every spot in the AirHogs order had a hit, an RBI or both. Levi Scott and Patrick Palmeiro each finished with two hits for the Railroaders. Angel Rosa went deep in the second inning for a solo blast, his second of the year.
Texas (10-31) will travel to Cleburne (16-26) to close the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 6:05. LHP Tyler Matzek (0-5, 6.59 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. RHP Dylan Mouzakes (1-2, 4.24 ERA) is expected to start for the Railroaders. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
