Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Lincoln Saltdogs scored 10 unanswered runs from the fourth through the sixth innings, surging past the Wichita Wingnuts 11-4 on Tuesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The two clubs traded runs in the top of the first, as Lincoln (25-18) got on the board first on Brandon Jacobs' two-out RBI single and Wichita (26-18) answered with an RBI single of their own from Abel Nieves.
The Saltdogs then broke out for eight extra-base hits in the middle innings against Wingnuts starter Jordan Cooper (4-4). Cesar Valera got the barrage started with an RBI double combined with a Wingnuts error that made it 3-1, then Chase Simpson squeaked an RBI single through the left side for a 4-1 Saltdogs lead. Back-to-back doubles and then back-to-back home runs from Curt Smith and Brandon Jacobs put Lincoln in front 8-1, before Dashenko Ricardo capped the scoring with an RBI single.
TJ Bennett launched a two-run shot in the sixth off Seth Harvey to complete the scoring for the Saltdogs.
Wichita pulled back to within 11-4 on Zach Nehrir's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, one of three hits on the night for the Wingnuts centerfielder. Wichita would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth against Brad Thoutt, but Tony Thomas grounded out to third to end the game.
Kyle Kinman (3-1) picked up the win with six strong innings for Lincoln, allowing six hits and just one earned run.
The Wingnuts continue their series with the Saltdogs on Wednesday, with Charlie Gillies (3-1, 3.42) going up against fellow righty Tyler Herron (4-4, 6.87). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
