Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - After a solid eight innings, the RedHawks looked to be on the way to a second win in-a-row over the St. Paul Saints. Then came the ninth inning and a strange turn of events that allowed St. Paul to come from behind and score five runs in the top of the ninth on the way to a 7-6 win over Fargo-Moorhead. The Saints capitalized on a single, a hit batter, a ball lost in the lights, two walks, and a sacrifice fly to left to achieve the miraculous finish in the top of the ninth.

The RedHawks (21-21) took a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning after Tim Colwell scored Charlie Valerio with an RBI double and Yhoxian Medina singled home Keury De La Cruz and Colwell for the four-run lead.

Will Solomon held the Saints to two runs on six hits over six innings on the mound. Solomon left the game with the RedHawks leading 6-2; he did not factor into the decision.

Travis Ballew pitched two solid innings in relief to hold the lead heading into the ninth, but the foursome of Anthony Pacillo, Jose Nivar, Randy McCurry, and Andrew Woeck combined to give up five runs on three hits for the Saints.

McCurry got the loss after coming on in relief of Jose Nivar, who left with an undisclosed injury after hitting the one batter he faced and giving up three runs (two earned) against four batters.

The RedHawks fall back to third place in the North Division with the loss, despite a loss by the division-leading Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight against Chicago. Fargo-Moorhead will try to win the series with the Saints tomorrow night at Newman Outdoor Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 PM with post-game fireworks.
