Pride top Long Island 7-3 in longest nine inning game on the Island this season

Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Nashua Pride 7-3 in front of 6,477 fans at Citibank Park on Saturday night. The teams combined for 22 hits and 13 walks in a three hour and 22 minute contest, which was the longest nine inning game played by the Ducks this season. The Pride have now won 11 straight games.

Brian Becker put Nashua on the board with a two-run homer to left in the first. Pat Lennon cut the lead in half at in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly that plated Carlos Hernandez. The Pride took a 3-1 lead in the third when a Kevin Haverbusch single scored David Francia. Nashua added three runs in the seventh to take a five run lead. Lennon gave the Ducks their second run of the night on a groundout that saw Chris Latham touch home in the seventh. Dominick Ambrosini cut the lead to three later in the frame with a single that scored Hernandez. The Pride added their final run in the eighth when Pete Shier scored on a bases loaded double play groundout by Jimmy Hearst.

Paxton Crawford (8-6) took the loss after tossing six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three. Brian Bowles pitched one third of an inning of relief and surrendered one run on one hit, walking two and striking out one. Tony Runion finished up the seventh inning walking one and striking out one. Chris Smith came on in the eighth and was touched for one run on two walks and one hit batter. Carl Sadler closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

The Ducks and Pride will play two games tomorrow as part of a split doubleheader. The first game will begin at 1:35 p.m. Gates will open at 12:35 with a pregame autograph session on the field prior to the game and Suffolk Credit Union will provide floppy caps to the 1,500 fans in attendance. Justin Lamber (4-0) will take the hill against the Pride's Rob Averette (6-4). The teams will then leave the field and the second game will begin at 7:05 p.m. with postgame fireworks following the contest presented by Grucci. Lance Davis (3-4) will square off against fellow southpaw Brian Looney (3-3) in the nightcap. Chris King and Mike Graham will call all of the action from Citibank Park, with both games airing in their entirety. Game one's broadcast will begin at 1:20 and game two's broadcast will begin at 6:50.
