
Lancaster earns split with 11-6 win over Bears

NEWARK, NJ, July 9-The Lancaster Barnstormers smacked four home runs en-route to an 11-6 victory over the Newark Bears in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Newark also hit four home runs in winning the opener, 10-3.
Lancaster hit two home runs and plated six runs total in the 2nd inning to grab a 6-0 lead in the nightcap. After Jutt Hileman's RBI single and Travis Hake's two-run single off of Carlos Castillo in the 2nd, Quincy Foster lifted his 6th home run of the season over the wall in right, a two-run shot, to make the score 5-0. Two batters later, former Bears first baseman Jeremy Todd delivered a solo home run off of his former team, to make the score 6-0.
Jason Bryan, who hit a three-run blast in the 5th inning, was 2-4 at the plate for Lancaster. Teammate Oreste Marrero was also 2-4, with an RBI double and a solo home run.
Newark third baseman Jose Olmeda was 2-4 with two doubles and 2 RBI and second baseman Teuris Olivares had a two-run single in three trips to the plate.
Lancaster has now split all four doubleheaders they have played this season, while Newark has split four twinbills and swept one.
The two teams will hook up in the final game of the season's first half Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM with former New York Met lefty Bobby M. Jones (0-0) starting for the Bears.
