Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN-The Riversharks set the tone in the 1st inning, scoring four runs off Bluefish starter, Josh Kalinowski, and held on for a 5-2 win in front of 3,379ans at Campbell's Field.
Kalinowski struggled with his control in the opening frame, needing 37 pitches to get through the inning. Ryan Jones drew a bases loaded walk, plating Brad Strauss (2-5) with the game's first run. Second baseman, Troy Cameron, followed with an RBI single to deep right field that put the Riversharks in front 2-0. Later in the inning, Guy Lynam and Brian Hunter each drew walks, allowing two more runs to score. Kalinowski would settle down to pitch six innings, but took the loss, falling to 3-5 on the season.
Camden's Kevin Dougherty pitched out of trouble all night. With the bases loaded in the 4th, Dougherty struck out Steve Larkin (2-5) to retire the side. The big left-hander improved to 5-2, tossing seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out two. Bridgeport finally got on the board with an opposite field solo homerun off the bat of Hector Kuilan (6).
Victor Gutierrez continued to swing a hot bat, collecting two more hits for the Riversharks, who have now taken the first three games of the series.
Wayne Gomes pitched a scoreless 9th to record his 13th save.
Left-hander Jaime Steward gets the start for Camden tomorrow afternoon, the last game before both teams head into the All-Star break. Bridgeport will send Josh Miller to the mound.
Somerset clinched the South Division's first half title with a 4-3 win over Atlantic City.
