Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm host the Fargo Force tonight at the Viaero Center. The battle will feature two of the Western Conference's Top 3 teams. A regulation win tonight over Fargo will move Tri-City to 2nd place in the conference standings. Tonight's home game promotions are highlighted by "Back to School Weekend". The Tri-City Storm will honor the recent successes of the football and volleyball teams at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). The game will feature a Chinese New Year Celebration, and live entertainment. $10 Tickets, $2 Busch Light Cans, and $1 Soda Cans will be available for both of the Storm's games this weekend. Puck drop for tonight's showdown between the Force and Storm is set for 7:05pm.
Tri-City (17-14-3-2) returns home to the Viaero Center in Kearney tonight after picking up road wins last week over the Waterloo Black Hawks and Youngstown Phantoms. Tri-City defeated Western Conference leading Waterloo by a final score of 4-3 on Tuesday and recorded a 4-1 defeat of the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday. One week ago, in its most recent game, the Storm dropped a 5-3 decision at the Covelli Centre to Youngstown. Goal scores in last week's road games included; Colby Ambrosio (3), Mitchell Miller (3), Joey Cipollone, Cole McWard, Carter Mazur, Joe Berg, and Matthew Knies. Earlier this week, Mitchell Miller was named the USHL's Defenseman of the Week for the first time in his career following his three goal, four assist performance on last week's road trip. The Storm enter tonight's game as the 3rd place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Tri-City hosts the team directly above them in the standings. A regulation win tonight over 2nd place Fargo would move the Storm to 2nd place in the Western Conference standings. Nick Capone is expected to return to the lineup tonight following a five game suspension for a cross checking penalty against Des Moines on January 4th. Following tonight's home game at the Viaero Center against Fargo, Tri-City returns to action tomorrow in a rivalry matchup against the Omaha Lancers.
Fargo (18-10-2-2) travels more than eight hours to the Viaero Center to play its only game of the weekend tonight against Tri-City. The Force won back to back games at Scheels Arena last weekend against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Fargo outscored Des Moines in the weekend series by a margin of 10-1. Fargo is led tonight by 1st Year Head Coach, and former Tri-City Storm forward, Pierre-Paul Lamoureux. The Force is 5-3-1-1 in its last ten games entering tonight's matchup against Tri-City. Each team has won two games in the previous four games played in the regular season series. The Force will battle the Storm seven times this season, with the final two games in the season series played at Scheels Arena on March 13th & March 14th. The Force will have two key players suspended from tonight's game. Alex Nordstrom will serve a one game suspension from a charging incident that occurred in a game against Des Moines on January 18th. Aaron Grounds will serve the second game of a two game suspension for a head contact infraction that occurred on January 17th in a matchup against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
