Fighting Saints Top Lancers in Shootout

RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers were defeated in a shootout against the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday night at Ralston Arena by a final score of 3-2.

The Lancers opened up the scoring in the first period. Alex Campbell (4:19) netted his tenth goal of the season finding the puck loose in front of Erik Portilla. The Fighting Saints evened the game 1-1 moments later when Stephen Halliday (5:51) scored on Kyle McClellan.

The Fighting Saints broke the tie with a power-play goal from Evan Stella (2:39). The Lancers would even the game again with Jack Randl (11:38) scoring off a shot from Jack Jensen making the score 2-2 to end the second period.

Neither team would score in the third period and the game went to overtime. After five minutes of 3-on-3 the game stayed locked up 2-2 and a shootout was forced. Dylan Jackson shot first and scored for Dubuque. Followed up by Chase Bradley who was stopped by Portillo. Dubuque sent Mark Cheremeta up next who was denied by McClellan. The Lancers called on Alex Campbell who was stopped by the right leg pad of Portillo. Riese Gaber was the final shooter who went and scored to end the game in overtime for a final score of 3-2.

The Lancers are now 15-11-6-1 on the year with 37 points and a spot at 4th in the Western Conference. They'll face off against the Sioux City Musketeers who won Friday night against the Lincoln Stars 6-3. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
