Herd Caps off Weekend with Sweep of Madison

MIDDLETON, Wisc. - The Sioux Falls Stampede capped off the weekend road trip with a 4-1 victory over the Madison Capitols at Capitol Ice Arena on Saturday night. Nick Anderson tallied the game-tying goal and Raimonds Vitolins scored his second of the weekend in the victory. Nate Reid made his consecutive start in net, stopping 21 of 22 shots on goal.

The Madison Capitols tallied the opening goal of the game for the second night in a row. Jack Horbach found Ryan Kirwan for his third score of the weekend at the 17:25 mark of the first.

Defenseman Nick Anderson answered back just :49 seconds into the second period for his second of the weekend on the power play. Josh Phillips and Brian Carrabes provided the assists on the goal. Four minutes later Ryan Sullivan sent a cross ice pass to Raimonds Vitolins who blasted a one timer point blank on goaltender Christian Stoever to take the 2-1 lead.

Vitolins would find Ryan Sullivan for his thirteenth of the season at the 2:12 mark of the third period to extend the lead by two goals. Brenden Olson capped off the scoring for the Herd with an empty-net goal.

The Herd finished the night 1-of-7 on the power play and 0-for-7 on the penalty kill. The team improves to 15-16-3 on the season with 33 points in the Western Conference.

The Stampede return home for back-to-back games with the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday and Saturday, then a weekday game with the Tri-City Storm on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday night is Special Olympics night presented by Modern Woodmen. Fans can take part in a silent auction on the main concourse of sports memorabilia to benefit Special Olympics South Dakota.
