Prince George Cougars News Release
Victoria, BC - The Prince George Cougars begin their road schedule of the 2023-2024 season, when they tangle with their BC Division rival Victoria Royals at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria. Prince George kicked off the regular season on home ice last weekend where they split with the Tri-City Americans. The most recent contest came back on Saturday, September 23rd, falling 6-4.
Terik Parascak, Hudson Thornton, Oren Shtrom, and Viliam Kmec lit the lamp for the Cougars in the loss. Josh Ravensbergen made 23 saves in his second WHL start after coming off his first WHL shutout in his debut the previous night.
Prince George will see two of their NHL prospects return to the lineup this weekend. Riley Heidt and Ty Young are back from their NHL camps with Heidt being at the Minnesota Wild camp and Young being at the Vancouver Canucks camp. Heidt had an impressive camp which was highlighted by a two-assist performance against the Colorado Avalanche in the preseason. "It was crazy," Heidt said. "I'm not going to lie, the first couple of shifts were a whirlwind but the veterans really helped out. I want to take the good habits I learned now back to the team and have a great season."
For Young, he had a memorable two weeks with the Canucks which was highlighted by inking a three-year entry-level contract. "It's a dream come true," expressed the Cougars 19-year-old netminder. "It's truly an honour to sign with my favourite team I grew up watching and it's a pretty cool achievement." Young also commented that the Canucks were not just impressed by how he was playing, but the year-to-year progression he has had. "I think you just want to show your potential and at the camp I think I showed that along and my ability to learn."
Cougar forward and LA Kings draft pick Koehn Ziemmer remains with the LA Kings in their preseason as they gear up for a contest tonight against the Anaheim Ducks.
