Preseason tilt against Texas Tech cancelled

October 13, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 10/13/08 - Thanks to a strange turn of events, the preseason game featuring the Texas Tech University club hockey team and the Amarillo Gorillas has been cancelled.

Scheduled to be played at 7:00 PM in Lubbock, TX on Monday, the game would have been the first-ever for the Red Raiders against a professional hockey club.

Monday morning, however, the compressor on the Zamboni at the Lubbock facility broke down. Unable to get the part repaired in time, the game coordinators had no choice but to cancel the exhibition match.

Due to the cancellation, the Gorillas have lost their final opportunity to fine-tune their squad before the regular season. The next chance for the Gorillas to hit the ice in a game atmosphere will occur October 17 against the New Mexico Scorpions in Rio Rancho, NM-the first regular season game for Amarillo in 2008-09.

Opening faceoff for the game is scheduled for 8:15 PM Central Time; fans not attending the away game can tune in to 1010 AM "The Canyon" in the Amarillo area to hear all the action. The CHL Network (www.nifty-tv.com/chl) will carry the Internet television feed of the Gorillas' opener as well.

Amarillo's next home game will take place Saturday, October 18 against New Mexico. Tickets for the 7:05 PM start are available by calling (806) 242-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Gorillas ticket office at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo.

Enjoy all the benefits of being an Amarillo Gorillas season ticket holder, including pregame meetings with Coach Coolen and one-of-a-kind access to special events! Gorillas season tickets for 2008-09 are available by calling (806) 242-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Gorillas office at 901 Buchanan in Amarillo.
