Scorpions Acquire Seth Leonard

October 13, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-As the Scorpions prepare for opening night this Friday, head coach Randy Murphy has traded for Seth Leonard from Colorado. In return the Eagles have received the right to Konrad Reeder.

"There was no chance Konrad was going to play in New Mexico this season," said Murphy. "I talked to him numerous times and all options to play here were exhausted, so we made the move to pick up a proven player in Seth."

Leonard comes off a career year scoring 68 points (26G, 42A) in 64 games for Colorado. The forward is entering his fifth season as a professional, playing the past two seasons for the Eagles after starting his career with Victoria in the ECHL.

In 249 games, Leonard has scored 174 points (75G, 99A). The 5'9", 190-pounder has shined the past two playoff runs scoring 34 points in 41 games.

"Seth gives us a definite upgrade to our roster," said Murphy. "He has put up some great numbers at this level."

Murphy will immediately begin to work on negotiating a contract and arrival for Leonard. The Scorpions do not expect him to be in New Mexico in time for opening night this Friday.

ROSTER CUTS

The Scorpions have also made some cuts to the training camp roster. Goaltender Peter Vetri, defensemen Joe Pace and Justin Schulz and forward Josh Paquette have been waived.

Schulz, the former UNM Ice Wolves player, will return to Columbus in the SPHL where he played last year. The Scorpions currently have 19 players on the roster.
